On Steam Link – Initial Impressions

So over the holidays the annual Steam winter sale took place, while I did buy a couple of games my largest purchase came in the form of ordering a Steam Link device for $20. If you don’t know what that is, it is basically a device that hooks up to your tv and allows you to stream games from your PC over your network. You might ask, “Why not just run an HDMI to your TV from your PC?”. True, this would be optimal but in my case my PC is in the room designated as my office and my TV is in my living room. I don’t want to snake an HDMI cable all the way across my apartment, not to mention using a controller. So for me this was a small investment, and if anything I felt that if allowed me to operate my desktop through my living … Read more…

On Legion and Decisions

So, I haven’t played Warcraft in a long time. Not since before Warlords came out and not after my friend/partner in crime passed away. For a long time the only reason I played or even enjoyed the game was because it was something we would do together. Be it her forcing me to pug LFR with her so I could see the content or by us roaming the countryside looking for elite named mobs to work on achievements. But mostly we just ran old content together because we didn’t get to do that when it was new. Since she passed away last summer I have not even considered going back in to the game because it brings up to many memories, and even after a year it still hurts when I think about it. With that said I’ve been seriously considering playing again, but even thinking about it has been … Read more…

On Games I’m Playing – Sidebar Update

So, today I’m feeling a bit mushy in the brain and didn’t come in with a good topic to discuss. This means that today’s post won’t be close to 2000 words, and will just be a brief synopsis of what I’m currently playing and what I have planned to play. You might also notice that I finally got around to updating my “What I’m Playing” sidebar since it hadn’t been updated in quite awhile. I feel like that is something I really should do a better job of doing since I do somewhat frequently rotate in a new game. For a couple of months I would have said the only game I was playing was Dark Souls 3, up until the point where I got all the trophies and haven’t picked it up since. So the first game you should see over there is No Man’s Sky which was the … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky

Well, the day has come for me to post some thoughts about No Man’s Sky, seemingly a very divisive game based on what other people have been saying. Mostly due to people feeling mislead about the content, or having bad PC experiences. The thing about this game is that for the longest time I wasn’t sure I was going to even buy it. I don’t remember being particularly impressed by the early trailers, but gradually started to look forward to a game that in my eyes was something I could just sit back and relax while playing. I had originally planned to get it for the PS4 when I was first thinking about getting it, but decided to go with the PC version for two reasons. Reason one was I had just bought a new gaming PC and assumed that it would be able to run any current games with … Read more…

On Hearthstone – Karazhan Launch and Prologue

So yesterday saw the release of the next Hearthstone adventure “One Night In Karazhan” which is the next 4 wing single player set of challenges. This will add a total of 45 new cards over the course of the adventure which can be used in online matches or adventures. This release was a bit different then the previous adventures because there was no pre-order period. Instead the purchase option became available only when the adventure came online. Another difference was that they included a free to everyone prologue mission where you play as Medivh with his overpowered mage deck against Prince Malchezaar. Each player starts off with 30 health and a 30 point shield, so essentially 60 health. Once you work through this mission it will unlock the first wing, once purchased. Once you finish the match you get some new cards and probably a prompt to go buy the … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky – Multiplayer Expectations

I’ll be honest, I feel like I had some other topic in mind yesterday but it’s 6:30am and I can’t remember it now. So today I’ll be briefly talking about No Man’s Sky some more, which is funny since I won’t be able to play it until tomorrow. So yesterday I saw a couple videos and an article or two talking about how people were upset that there wasn’t any multiplayer or cooperative gameplay. The thing is that, at least to my understanding, is that the game wasn’t designed that way. If you look at the steam store page you’ll see that it is not listed as multiplayer or co-op but as a single player game. From everything that they’ve said the likelihood of running in to another player should be next to impossible*. I was initially disapointed by this cause I thought it would be fun to cruise around … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky – Pre-PC-Release

So, like many people I pre-ordered No Man’s Sky on PC so I’m having to wait a couple of extra days to play. That may sound like I’m bothered by it, but in reality I’m totally fine with this. The thing is that even if it had come out today on PC I wouldn’t be playing it anyways. Why? Because I work full time and any gaming during the week is already a rare commodity. My days typically start off with me waking up at the crack of dawn taking a shower and then driving 20-30 minutes to work. I then proceed to work from 7/8am – 6pm. Another drive home, usually longer due to evening traffic, which usually puts me at home around 6:45-7pm depending on grabbing dinner. By the time I’ve finished eating it’s usually closer to 8pm, and I watch YouTube videos for most of the evening. … Read more…

On Solo Tavern Brawls and Seasonal Overwatch

So to keep today’s post from being super short I’m going to talk about two things. The first of which is that Hearthstone released its first Solo Tavern Brawl. Now Hearthstone is no stranger to single player content as they have the Adventure mode, but this is the first time they’ve had a single player brawl. Normally brawls involve playing with, or against another player similar to standard/wild formats and allow you to complete daily quests for gold. This time however it’s just you and your deck versus the city of Stormwind. The brawl name “Storming Stormwind” has a simple mechanic, hit it as much as you can until you die. The trick is that you can’t lose. The npc “boss” that you’re fighting starts with a couple of things. It starts with 1 hit point, which goes up after every hit (instead of going down) so you can’t actually … Read more…

On Elder Scrolls Legends – Beta Impressions

So first off, today is the first day of the yearly thing my friend Bel tries to organize where people commit to posting as much as possible during the month of August. Previous years it involved posting daily for the entire month, which is seriously hard to do. This year it has shifted slightly and while you can still choose to post every day if you want it isn’t required. This year there were scheduling options, of which I have chosen weekday blogs. Meaning I’m going to try, emphasis on try, to post Monday through Friday for every week in August. I’m not entirely sure how a public list will be handled, but you can head over to his blog and check out some of the other participants. So for my first post, I’m going to talk a little bit about the Elder Scrolls Legends beta that I played over … Read more…

On Refunds, Co-op and Story Modes

So yesterday was an interesting day gaming wise that started off trying to do some co-op and ended with playing the new story mode for Street Fighter 5. So, when having a specific person that you play co-op games with it can be a bit difficult to find a game that you’re both going to enjoy. Thanks to the Steam summer sale I finally got around to picking up “7 Days to Die” 2-pack. I had been wanting to play the game for a while, and it certainly seemed interesting. Survival/Zombie game combined with Minecraft. Seemed like an interesting game that would be fun to co-op. The problem is that it spawned me and my friend at opposite ends of the map and proceeded to be a farce of spawn, die, spawn, die. I spent an hour trying to get to my friend and with no way to easily identify … Read more…
