On Weekend Roundup

So I’m going to try something new today which is to talk about some things that I did over the weekend. Not that there is going to be any constincy to what I actually do during the weekend so topics may vary a bit. I’m kind of stealing the idea from my friend Bel who has been doing week in review style post for the last couple of weeks. So this weekend turned in to mostly movies with a little bit of time spent playing video games. I’ll start off with the gaming since it is a bit shorter. Primarily I played Destiny because I’m trying to get my money’s worth out of it before Assassins Creed Syndicate comes out in a couple of weeks. I can’t say I really did much because I’m at that point where the only way for me to get gear is to try to … Read more…

On Favorite Game Of 2015 (so far)

Today’s post courtesy of this prompt: What was your favorite game that was released in the last year, and why? This is actually a tough choice because there are two games that I just really enjoyed this year, at least up till now. Those two games are Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition. Both are fantastic games, and I easily put 100+ hours in to both of them. However, I think I’m going to go with Witcher 3 as my favorite game of 2015 (so far). You might ask why I would choose Witcher 3 over Dragon Age Inquisition and it would be hard to explain. I enjoyed both equally. Both had compelling stories and enough activities/quests to keep me busy for amount of time. I really don’t even want to choose because trying to justify one over the other is just really hard. In the end I think I’m … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Final Thoughts

I say final thoughts, because this is going to be the “review” post with my impressions of the game. I have not finished the game yet, though I think I’m around half way through the main story. I just like to take my time with games like this an do as much of the content as I can. I may also end up breaking this up in to multiple posts if it gets too lengthy. I don’t feel like people like to read a long wall of text. Or like me just don’t have the time. Story Personally I find that I enjoy the story so much that I don’t want to play any other games until I finish it. Which might lead to a problem considering I like to do everything I possibly can before finishing a game. At this point I am somewhere around halfway through the story … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Boats, Boats, Boats

So, I meant to write a post this past Friday, but due to work keeping me busy and feeling like death I didn’t get a chance to write anything up. Today is a bit of an interlude, and is going to be talking about my least favorite aspect of this game. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad or completely broken, I just have issues with this part of the game. Boats. I spent a majority of my weekend sailing around the Skellige islands going from point of interest to point of interest and ran across a couple of annoying mechanics that I want to talk about. Now, there was a patch that was supposed to address some of the issues people were having and I’ll talk about that later, but for the most part I find this part a bit annoying. First off, Geralt needs a bigger boat. Probably … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Tips

This has gone a bit better then expected so far. This will make 4 days worth of posts about this game. This one might be a bit of a stretch.I’m by far not the best player in this game, I mean I die a lot but I’ve never claimed I was good at any game. Just felt like I could share a few things I’ve learned along the way while playing the game. Money So, the thing that drove me crazy early on was that I never felt like I had enough money to buy the things I felt like I needed. This does get a bit easier later in the game, and there are always non-conventional methods to getting a lot of money (cow cheat). I don’t think there really is a quick and easy path out there though, it’s just something that you will need to be patient … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Where’d the time go?

So this makes part 3 in the series. This is more of the impromptu topic that I just pulled out of a hat, so we’ll see how it goes. Today’s topic of discussion: Where did the time go? I decided on this topic after thinking about how many times I’ve looked up at the clock while playing to discover that a considerable amount of time has gone by without me realizing it. Not that has ever been a large span of time, usually around an hour or a little more. That may be not be the case for everyone, I live alone and don’t go out much so I don’t have other people to pull me away from something as immersive as Witcher 3 is. I imagine if there was someone else in my apartment with me it would be different. The main source of distraction for me is my … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Content, Content, Content

Welcome to part 2 of my Witcher 3 Wild Hunt posts. Today’s topic? Content, if that wasn’t obvious. The thing about this game is there is a lot to do, and man that can’t be emphasized enough. As of writing this I am around 80 hours in to the game and I feel like I haven’t touched half of the content yet. I think that it is technically possible to beat the game in under 30 hours, if you’ve played through before and know the optimal path to get through it. Why you would want to rush through the game is a mystery to me. I think that any future playthroughs will always see me doing as much content as possible. So what types of content is there to do? Points of Interest While traveling around the different areas in the game you will come across message boards in towns. … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Characters and Choices

So let start off by saying that I have not finished the game yet, not nearly. As of last night I think I had around 80 hours of time in the game, and considering there is supposed to by 200+ hours of content I would say that is not half way through yet. I’m also still on what can be called “Act 1” (based on how the strategy guide is laid out). Also, yes I bought the guide, I’m just not using it. I got it because of the goodies that came with the collectors edition version, and for when I play through a second time, because there will be a second time. Anyways. If you’re not familiar with the Witcher series of books and games then you might want to brush up. I can’t say I know everything about the series, most of what I know has come from … Read more…
