On Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

Over the last couple of weeks I have been playing Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on my PS4. I had tried playing the game when it originally came out on the PS3 in 2013 but got to a part that was frustrating and quit playing. A month or two ago I went out and purchased the PS4 version of this, as well as Rise of the Tomb Raider because I wanted to give it another shot. The reason I decided to give it another chance was mainly because since 2013 my gaming preferences have slightly altered and I wanted to play the newer one without missing out on the story. Up till this game I have never played, or at least never finished any other Tomb Raider game. I can’t remember if I played the original 20 years ago, but I don’t think I did. Overall I would say I enjoyed … Read more…

On Games I’m Playing – Sidebar Update

So, today I’m feeling a bit mushy in the brain and didn’t come in with a good topic to discuss. This means that today’s post won’t be close to 2000 words, and will just be a brief synopsis of what I’m currently playing and what I have planned to play. You might also notice that I finally got around to updating my “What I’m Playing” sidebar since it hadn’t been updated in quite awhile. I feel like that is something I really should do a better job of doing since I do somewhat frequently rotate in a new game. For a couple of months I would have said the only game I was playing was Dark Souls 3, up until the point where I got all the trophies and haven’t picked it up since. So the first game you should see over there is No Man’s Sky which was the … Read more…

On Hitman – Sort of a Post Mortem

So, when Hitman was first announced as a somewhat episodic title I was a bit skeptical and wasn’t sure it was a good idea. Since the game has come out I feel like my opinion on this has slightly shifted. That doesn’t mean I’m a fan of episodic content, I just think that in the end that was probably the best choice they could make for this game. The reason I say this is because Hitman, at least the way it is now, can be quickly digested in a single sitting. If you follow the guided routes, what they call opportunities, you are more often then not led straight to the target and how to get rid of them. If not both then one or the other. If that is the only thing you do for each level, then yes you can finish all the current content within a couple … Read more…

On Refunds, Co-op and Story Modes

So yesterday was an interesting day gaming wise that started off trying to do some co-op and ended with playing the new story mode for Street Fighter 5. So, when having a specific person that you play co-op games with it can be a bit difficult to find a game that you’re both going to enjoy. Thanks to the Steam summer sale I finally got around to picking up “7 Days to Die” 2-pack. I had been wanting to play the game for a while, and it certainly seemed interesting. Survival/Zombie game combined with Minecraft. Seemed like an interesting game that would be fun to co-op. The problem is that it spawned me and my friend at opposite ends of the map and proceeded to be a farce of spawn, die, spawn, die. I spent an hour trying to get to my friend and with no way to easily identify … Read more…

On catching up.

So I guess it has been over a month since my last post. Honestly I haven’t really felt all that motivated to write much. Been pretty busy time at work which is usually where I do all the writing. So just to give a few updates I guess. I bought a new computer, and it took almost a month for it to actually come in. I wound up getting an Alienware Area-51 desktop, 4 TB hard drive, 16 GB ram and an NVidea Geforce 970 with 4GB Ram. It’s a beast, and I’ve barely had a chance to use it. Within the first couple of days I started having issues with the network card telling me it was missing registry entries or something. I haven’t had time to really dig in to it, so the only solution I’ve managed to get working at this point is turning the PC off, … Read more…

On Dark Souls 3

So, I’ll start off with saying I’m not the biggest fan of this series because I had a pretty rough experience with the first Dark Souls. No, not Demon Souls, which is technically the first in the series. I’m referring to the first Dark Souls game that came out for the PS3/XBox 360/PC several years. That game has the single honor of making me either nearly break or actually break a controller. I can’t remember if it actually broke, but I feel like I did. Now if you don’t know anything about this series I will just say that the first Dark Souls was probably the hardest, and most frustrating, game I’ve ever played in my life. The games in the series are designed to kill you, but in the process make you better at the game. It’s all about trial and error and learning what works. If you’ve played … Read more…

On Hitman: Paris*

*On what is currently available to play. Not all the content is out yet because is releasing episodically. I’ll start off by saying that I’ve only ever finished one Hitman game before the latest installment had it’s first round of content released. Prior to this game I’ve only completed Hitman: Absolution, which I liked. It was criticized for being different from the original Hitman trilogy because of how small the levels were and how it wasn’t as open ended as they were. Like I said, I never finished those so I was fine with what I got. The new Hitman game is a return to how the old games were, for the most part. The game, and what are essentially tutorial levels, starts off 20 years before the first game and covers how Agent 47 joins the agency he works for and how he gets the name “Agent 47”. The … Read more…

On Street Fighter 5 – Initial Impressions

So last night at right around 11 pm CST my PS4 digital pre-order unlocked. The problem was, it couldn’t connect to the online servers. Now this isn’t a big deal for me as I’m not really sure how much online matchmaking I’ll be doing, even if that seems to be the focus of the game. What was funny was all the people losing their minds online. I mean, they must never have played ANY MMO at launch. Besides that, for me it was really late and I have to get up for work every morning so I wasn’t planning to play a lot anyways. I did a little training mode and called it a night. The problem with the server being offline, is that the way you earn money/experience is through playing the game, but it won’t work in offline mode. I simply don’t understand that. I can understand online … Read more…

On Busy Gaming Month

So, this is not me complaining that there are to many games coming out in the next month or so. In fact I’m going to be happy to have so many things to choose from. I’m just glad I’m at a point in my life & career that I have a little bit of extra money to be able to get to enjoy my hobby in the way that I do. So short rundown on what’s coming up that I’ve got pre-ordered. I think there are PC versions for all of these but I’m mostly a console person at this point so all of these will be getting played on my PS4. Street Fighter 5 Street Fighter 5, which comes out next week, is a game I was really on the fence about. I’ve played several iterations of this series ever since Street Fighter 2 on the SNES back when … Read more…

On Wrapping Up International Picture Posting Month

So today is going to be my last large batch of screenshots. I had meant to spread them out between more posts but you know, lazy. So here are the last few that I have taken from Fallout 4 that I had not already posted to Twitter. I think this puts me up to 50, which was the goal for the month. This is the same as the one above it, just messed with contrast so you could see detail a bit better.
