On Board Game Night

So, first off I guess technically I failed with the posting every weekday thing for August since I missed two days last week as well as yesterday. But I have an great excuse, was way to busy at work to do any typing of the words that show up on your screen. So, I have mentioned on Twitter that I went out Saturday night for the first time in forever. I’m not the most social person, at least to people I have never met before, so going out to a social thing where I knew absolutely zero people is not something I would normally do. However, I decided to not be a hermit and talked myself in to driving in to town, or well the city since I do in fact live in a town not a van down by the river. The local game store was holding an adults … Read more…

On Games I’m Playing – Sidebar Update

So, today I’m feeling a bit mushy in the brain and didn’t come in with a good topic to discuss. This means that today’s post won’t be close to 2000 words, and will just be a brief synopsis of what I’m currently playing and what I have planned to play. You might also notice that I finally got around to updating my “What I’m Playing” sidebar since it hadn’t been updated in quite awhile. I feel like that is something I really should do a better job of doing since I do somewhat frequently rotate in a new game. For a couple of months I would have said the only game I was playing was Dark Souls 3, up until the point where I got all the trophies and haven’t picked it up since. So the first game you should see over there is No Man’s Sky which was the … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky

Well, the day has come for me to post some thoughts about No Man’s Sky, seemingly a very divisive game based on what other people have been saying. Mostly due to people feeling mislead about the content, or having bad PC experiences. The thing about this game is that for the longest time I wasn’t sure I was going to even buy it. I don’t remember being particularly impressed by the early trailers, but gradually started to look forward to a game that in my eyes was something I could just sit back and relax while playing. I had originally planned to get it for the PS4 when I was first thinking about getting it, but decided to go with the PC version for two reasons. Reason one was I had just bought a new gaming PC and assumed that it would be able to run any current games with … Read more…

On Suicide Squad (Spoilers)

So, this weekend I managed to pull a few of my friends together to go see Suicide Squad. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews for the movie, generally putting it in to a you’ll either love it or hate it category. I’ll say I’ve never really read the Suicide Squad comic books, maybe a couple of issues total, but I was probably more familiar with a lot of the characters then a lot of the people who were at the theater to see this. I’m pretty sure that DC was banking on people seeing Will Smith in the cast and going to see it just because of that. Well, that and Margot Robbie’s rear in hanging out for most of the movie. They do play probably the two most recognizeable characters out of any of the others, except maybe Killer Croc which I’ll get to that later. Mostly … Read more…

On Hearthstone – Karazhan Launch and Prologue

So yesterday saw the release of the next Hearthstone adventure “One Night In Karazhan” which is the next 4 wing single player set of challenges. This will add a total of 45 new cards over the course of the adventure which can be used in online matches or adventures. This release was a bit different then the previous adventures because there was no pre-order period. Instead the purchase option became available only when the adventure came online. Another difference was that they included a free to everyone prologue mission where you play as Medivh with his overpowered mage deck against Prince Malchezaar. Each player starts off with 30 health and a 30 point shield, so essentially 60 health. Once you work through this mission it will unlock the first wing, once purchased. Once you finish the match you get some new cards and probably a prompt to go buy the … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky – Multiplayer Expectations

I’ll be honest, I feel like I had some other topic in mind yesterday but it’s 6:30am and I can’t remember it now. So today I’ll be briefly talking about No Man’s Sky some more, which is funny since I won’t be able to play it until tomorrow. So yesterday I saw a couple videos and an article or two talking about how people were upset that there wasn’t any multiplayer or cooperative gameplay. The thing is that, at least to my understanding, is that the game wasn’t designed that way. If you look at the steam store page you’ll see that it is not listed as multiplayer or co-op but as a single player game. From everything that they’ve said the likelihood of running in to another player should be next to impossible*. I was initially disapointed by this cause I thought it would be fun to cruise around … Read more…

On Free Hulu and Cord-Cutting

It’s early and I’m not sure what to talk about so here’s something I read about recently regarding the payment plan for Hulu. Since the service started up way back in 2007 they’ve had at least part of their service available for free, letting you watch television shows without having to pay for cable. I’m not sure how well the service worked back then, or how long of a delay there was from episodes airing to them showing up on Hulu, but for the time I’ve been using it that has usually been within a day or two. Personally I’ve been using the Hulu Plus subscription service for a couple years now, and I pay the extra few dollars a month to not have the advertisements. It always bothered me when I was paying for the service that there were still ads but it never really bothered me that much … Read more…

On No Man’s Sky – Pre-PC-Release

So, like many people I pre-ordered No Man’s Sky on PC so I’m having to wait a couple of extra days to play. That may sound like I’m bothered by it, but in reality I’m totally fine with this. The thing is that even if it had come out today on PC I wouldn’t be playing it anyways. Why? Because I work full time and any gaming during the week is already a rare commodity. My days typically start off with me waking up at the crack of dawn taking a shower and then driving 20-30 minutes to work. I then proceed to work from 7/8am – 6pm. Another drive home, usually longer due to evening traffic, which usually puts me at home around 6:45-7pm depending on grabbing dinner. By the time I’ve finished eating it’s usually closer to 8pm, and I watch YouTube videos for most of the evening. … Read more…

On Batman: The Killing Joke (spoilers)

In case the title was not any indication there will be spoilers. Normally spoilers are not something I’ll post within a respectable period of time after coming out so I don’t ruin it for anyone. The thing is, the story that this animated film was based on came out in 1988. So I think the grace period passed by quite some time ago. It’s like someone not knowing the Titanic sinks in the end. So if you’ve never read The Killing Joke before this is essentially the point where Barbara Gordon initially transitions to the Oracle role. Not in the actual story, or at least in the book but I’ll get to that later. This also serves as a sort of origin story for the joker, but they point out through dialog that it is just how the Joke remembers it at that time and that he routinely remembers it … Read more…

On Weekend Gaming

So it’s finally Friday, which means I survived not only the first week of August but that with this post I met my “weekday” post challenge for the first week of Blaugust. So far I’m already finding it hard to come up with subjects every day, though easier on days where at least did some form of gaming the night before. Last night was not one of those night. I wouldn’t say I game as much as I have in the past, even from the same time last year. Most days I’m up by 6am getting ready for work and I get home around 7pm. So by the time I’ve eaten and finished watching YouTube it’s pretty late and I’m to tired to play. This is why I like games I can pick up for a short time and put down and not have to worry about where I was, … Read more…
