On Hitman: Agent 47

So this past Friday (August 21) the new Hitman movie came out in theaters. If you’re not familiar with the video game series it is based on I might recommend looking in to the games first because, while the movie does explore some of the history of the character it might help to get some more background before going in to it. Though, if you just enjoy action movies then you may like this too. The thing is that I’ve only really played the most recent Hitman game that came out, Absolution. I know the backstory, but I really went to see it because it looked like it would have elements of the game that I enjoyed. Now I wouldn’t say that it totally lives up to that, but it throws nods to the gameplay style that I knew. The problem is that they pretty much show all of that … Read more…

On Communicating With Readers

So today is day 23 of Blaugust and I’ve managed to make it this far. Just another few days to go. Like most people I think I’ve just about run dry on ideas, so I’m turning again to a writing prompt to get through the day. Many bloggers communicate with our readers more through social media than through the comments on our actual blog these days. What is your favorite way to communicate with your readers? I would say this isn’t something I have to deal with very often because I don’t get a lot of comments, which I’m okay with. I think I’ve had the most comments over the last month than any point in time prior. The question at hand though is what is my favorite way to communicate with readers. I’d have to say that my answer would be twitter because this is the social platform I’m … Read more…

On My Gaming Space(s)

So there was a Blaugust post yesterday over on The Girl Cave talking about gaming spaces. I thought that was a nice idea, so I’m stealing it. *smoke bomb* So in this image is my pc setup, yes it’s messy don’t judge me. Let’s see here. It consists of the following: 1: 2 monitors (ASUS on the left, HANNS G on the right) 2: Logitech something or other mouse 3: Logitech G510s keyboard ( I don’t like it ) 4: horizontal Blue Snowball podcast mic 5: Wacom Intuos Tablet 6: Logitech webcam 7: Wired xbox controller 8: My hand me down armchair I read in 9: Headset, Razer i think 10: carpet 11: lots of wires 12: Custom built PC (built mostly myself) 13: Rift CE mousepad 14: A mug from a comic con I went to in Houston (Space City Comic-Con) PC Specs: Windows 10 8 GB Ram 1 … Read more…

On Wii U – Some Thoughts

Yesterday I mentioned that I got a Wii U which, admittedly, was a spur of the moment decision. I’ve always intended to buy one, but had been waiting for a new Zelda game to come out. I know there is one in the works, but with watching Mario Maker videos really got me excited and is ultimately why I made the purchase. It did present one problem that was going to come up sooner or later… I didn’t have enough space on my surge protector, well mostly. The one I was using has 14 plugs on it, but they are all bunched together and several of the things plugged in to it were wide, or long, just generally not the size of a standard plug. This meant that I didn’t have anywhere to put something new. So last night on the way home from work I stopped and got two … Read more…

On Wii’s and Wii U’s

So, I finally did it. I broke down and bought a Wii U. It probably wasn’t the best decision from a financial point of view, but I’ve been wanting one for a long time and with the release of Mario Maker coming up soon I felt like it was a good time to make the purchase. Now, as I’m typing this I haven’t hooked it up yet because, well, I’m still at work. I have 1 1/2 hours left till I can leave, and I’m ready to just go home and hook it up and play some Mario. I’ve mentioned it before but I have always had a love for Nintendo. I might not buy a lot of their games, but the 8 bit console was the first console I ever had. Growing up we always had the latest Nintendo system, which was usually a x-mas gift given as something … Read more…

On Caffeine

So this is not really a gaming related post, but I’m running thin on ideas and I have 18 minutes left in my lunch break. So I’m kind of scrambling here. Depending on how much of my blog you’ve read you will know that one of the things I’ve struggled with are weight issues. I’m not a skinny person, and have not been for a long, long time. One of the factors in this is probably is the large amount of soft drinks (however you phrase them ie. Soda/Cola/Pop/Coke). When I was younger I would drink at least a liter of Dr. Pepper a day, which is way more sugar than is healthy. During college I would probably drink 2-3 20 ounce bottles of Mountain Dew, again not helping. A few years back I realized that all that sugar was not doing me any good, and that really the caffeine … Read more…

On Favorite Game Of 2015 (so far)

Today’s post courtesy of this prompt: What was your favorite game that was released in the last year, and why? This is actually a tough choice because there are two games that I just really enjoyed this year, at least up till now. Those two games are Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition. Both are fantastic games, and I easily put 100+ hours in to both of them. However, I think I’m going to go with Witcher 3 as my favorite game of 2015 (so far). You might ask why I would choose Witcher 3 over Dragon Age Inquisition and it would be hard to explain. I enjoyed both equally. Both had compelling stories and enough activities/quests to keep me busy for amount of time. I really don’t even want to choose because trying to justify one over the other is just really hard. In the end I think I’m … Read more…

On A Life Changing Game

So, this is becoming routine as the month goes on, but, I’m using another writing prompt from the Blaugust forum. The topic is to talk about a game that changed your life. Technically for me there are three games that have shaped my personal life. The first one is Phantasy Star Online for the Sega Dreamcast. The thing about that game is that it really wasn’t a beneficial to me in a normal way. The game was released sometime during my freshman year of college, and I spent way too much time playing it. I’ve never really been a fan of school, and I had previously had attendance issues, so college was the worst time for me to find a game that I wanted to play more than I wanted to go to class. The problem is that I found this in PSO. I would pretty much stay up late … Read more…

On Blaugust Day 11 – Liebster Award

So, from what I understand this is not an actual award, but more of a chain letter. Basically you fill in some stuff and then tag other people and they fill it out, and so on and so on until the end of times. Anyways, so the first part is supposed to be 11 facts about myself, so here goes. 1. When I was 6 I got hit by a truck while crossing the street. They called my mom at work and told her I was dead. That was probably the first grey hair she ever had. 2. During my youth I skipped school A LOT. It’s surprising I finished public school on time. 3. I almost got expelled from high school, see #2 4. I have a nice scar on the back of my head which came from being an idiot. My sister and I thought it would be … Read more…

On Expansions And Rational Discussions (aka don’t be a jerk).

So last week Blizzard announced the next expansion for World of Warcraft to very mixed responses. A lot of the people I interact with online either play or have played WoW, and as I’ve mentioned before I’ve played it off and on since vanilla. The thing is a lot of people, including myself, were very vocal about how they were not pleased with what was shown, or how they felt let down by it. Like I said I was one of those people, but after I had made a few comments about it I realized that all I was doing was raining on the parade of the people who really do enjoy the game. Now I didn’t go in trying to specifically ruin someones day, but I know that it probably bothered the people who were thoroughly excited about the game to see so much negativity towards it. I think … Read more…
