On Murdered Soul Suspect (Review)

Before I start this up, I guested on my friend Bel’s podcast again this past weekend and we discussed some E3 stuff. Go and give it a listen here. I’m going to be a bit direct here and say that while I enjoyed some parts of the game, overall I feel very disappointed in how this game turned out. From every video I saw prior to release the game seemed to be pretty cool, and I do think that the premise is original and interesting, but that doesn’t save it from a not entirely positive review. So the structure of this post is going to be the things I like about the game, then the things I felt let down on and how they could have been done better. Keep in mind I am talking about the PS4 version, and as far as I know there is no planned DLC … Read more…

On Console Exclusivity

This week E3 is going on and the big companies are showing off their new games and product pitches. Yesterday both Microsoft and Sony held their big presentations talking about upcoming titles and how focused they are on providing content. Both companies tend to talk about their console exclusive titles, but also talk about cross console releases as well. The thing is both companies kept talking about how they’d have this title first or have this amount of exclusive content that you won’t get anywhere else. Every time I heard that I want to get a rolled up newspaper and whack the presenter on the nose saying “Bad presenter, stop withholding content from your players!”. I think it is dumb to separate what players get just because they may choose one console over another. Personally I own a PS4 (for arguments sake keeping this next gen). I don’t own a … Read more…

On Aiden Pearce Is A Jerk (Watch Dogs Review)

Over this weekend I accomplished one task, that task being finishing up the story campaign in Watch Dogs. To be honest I didn’t keep track of how many hours I have invested in the game, but probably not as much as I’d like to think. I’m not sure how well the game is currently doing ratings wise, but from what I’ve heard people are saying they feel a bit let down by the game. Personally I enjoyed the game, but you only ever seem to hear the negative reviews because the other people are to busy enjoying the game. Now a bit of a disclaimer, I played the PS4 version of the game so I can’t attest to any PC / XBox One issues or graphical quality. I also didn’t watch much of the initial E3 demo from when the game was announced so I have no personal opinion about … Read more…

On Following Your Friends To New Games

So, if anyone noticed I did not write anything yesterday, which kind of breaks my posting every week day goal. In my defense real life crap came up and I just didn’t have the time. One of the responsibilities I have on the project I work on is taking an on call shift once every five weeks. This involves a lot of small things, but mostly making sure things are working. Yesterday we started having issues with one of our servers in what we are now referring to as “Fileocolypse”. So yeah, just didn’t have time to come up with coherent thoughts. Today I passed that on to someone else and it’s not my problem anymore. So for a quick post I though I’d talk a little bit about how we choose games. I think I’ve touched on this before, and hopefully I haven’t already written this post. What got … Read more…

On Playing Multiple Games At Once

Todays topic is one I’ve thought about on and off for awhile now, and that is, is it really possible to effectively play more than one game at a time? I know plenty of people who are very good at this, or at least have an effective schedule set up to allow them to play more than one at a time. Personally I’m not very good at this, and often say I have video game ADD. For example, right now I have 2 reoccurring MMO games, World Of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online. These are on top of the other PC/Console games I’m trying to work through, namely Dark Souls 2 and the new Wolfenstein game. That list is going to grow pretty quick once Watchdogs and Murdered: Soul Suspect come out over the next couple of weeks. For me, this presents a bit of a dilemma, what game do … Read more…

On Upcoming Games and NBI

Upcoming Games So last night while talking with my pals in voice chat, the topic came up of a new MMO that is coming out sometime this year called ArcheAge and the various pay to test options that were available. First off though, a bit of background on the game. Granted, this is limited information, just what I’ve read and heard on the developer videos. From what I can gather this game was a Korean developed game that is being brought over by Trion Worlds (who produced Rift). So from what I can tell the game is already out there, or at least in there version of beta testing. Most of the videos I’ve watched are from folks who managed to get past some odd region locking. So right now Trion has the game in alpha testing, with beta testing coming up “soon”. Following a current trend with Free To … Read more…

On The Most Frustrating Game Ever

If you read my post a few days ago, you’ll know which game I’m referring to here. Dark Souls 2… Yeah, this game is probably the most frustrating game I’ve ever played. Which is saying a lot since I did finish the last Dark Souls. Now, if you don’t know anything about the series I’ll sum it up for you really quick. You’re going to die. A lot. This is not an understatement, or the fact that I feel like I suck at the game. You’re going to die and it is going to make you want to throw your controller through your TV (or in my case PC monitor). I really am not sure why the game designers hate the players so much, but I think they new there is a little bit of a masochist in everyone and that they would play this game until they wept. Or … Read more…

On being lazy and forgetting my password

So as always it’s been a terribly long time since the last time I’ve posted anything. What can I say, I’m lazy. ¬†And I forget my password a lot. I’m going to try to keep this one short, and try to write up some more detailed posts soon. So to start off I’m going to talk about what I’ve been up to since the last time I posted. Work This is probably the main thing that has been keeping me busy. I work full time as a software developer focused primarily on internal business applications. Last year we added a new client and as a result had to translate part of our windows application in to a web based application. This is because the licensing for the web software is cheaper than the windows license and this particular client will have a lot more users than the other clients typically … Read more…
