On Saying Goodbye

This is going to be a departure from my usual gaming related topics, because I have something important to talk about. It is not something easy for me either because I am still grieving and am not sure I’ve fully processed everything that is going on right now. Anyone who follows me will have seen some discussion this weekend about a personal loss that I experienced this week. My best friend in the entire world passed away suddenly sometime Wednesday or Thursday (I don’t know the specific time). I wanted to come on here and tell you a little bit about who my friend was and why she was such an amazing person who I will miss for the rest of my life. I guess the first thing to say is that my friends name was Sydney. We met several years ago while playing World of Warcraft when her guild … Read more…

On Batman: Arkham Knight (part 3) – DLC/Season Pass

This might be a short post day, as I feel this topic is more of a personal opinion post than actually discussing the game. So when the game was announced they also announced a season pass that would have new content for the game once a month for six continuous months. The first story DLC was recently announced as a prequel story that allows you to play as Batgirl going up against the Joker & Harley Quinn sometime prior to the events of Arkham Asylum. So it falls somewhere between Origins (timeline wise this would be first) and Asylum where she has switched to her role as Oracle. From what I can see in the trailer this does look like an interesting addition to the story, and from what I’ve read there will be additional easter eggs and collectibles to find. I’m just a little bit leery about making this … Read more…

On Batman: Arkham Knight (part 2) – Side Missions

So in the last post I talked a bit about the Batmobile and how I felt like it was a bit overused. Today’s topic is side missions, or, how I got 100% completion in Arkham Knight. One of the selling points for Arkham Knight was that it is an open world environement allowing you to go anywhere in the city at any time (for the most part). I’ve found that any game that sells itself as an open world game usually has at least some amount of side missions in it. I’m sure people have different opinions on stuff like that, and normally I am a bit mixed on them, but the ones in this game at least felt fluid enough that I didn’t mind doing them. It also helps that you HAVE to get 100% completion to get the true ending to the game. That said, today’s topic is … Read more…

On Batman: Arkham Knight (part 1) – The Batmobile

So I realize it’s probably been about a month since I last posted anything. Work kind of got in the way of things. I got suckered in to helping develop & test the mobile app that our clients wanted which has meant lots of hours put in at work. This leads to a lack of motivation to use a computer outside of work, which is subsequently why I play more console games. Anyways you’re probably here for the gaming not the “why isn’t he posting” q & a. I’m going to try to post a few different topics talking about various aspects of Batman: Arkham Knight, which I recently finished. I will try to keep anything I talk about spoiler free, however I do feel like there will be one with spoilers which I will note in the header and repeatedly throughout. If, after writing a post, I feel like … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Final Thoughts

I say final thoughts, because this is going to be the “review” post with my impressions of the game. I have not finished the game yet, though I think I’m around half way through the main story. I just like to take my time with games like this an do as much of the content as I can. I may also end up breaking this up in to multiple posts if it gets too lengthy. I don’t feel like people like to read a long wall of text. Or like me just don’t have the time. Story Personally I find that I enjoy the story so much that I don’t want to play any other games until I finish it. Which might lead to a problem considering I like to do everything I possibly can before finishing a game. At this point I am somewhere around halfway through the story … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Boats, Boats, Boats

So, I meant to write a post this past Friday, but due to work keeping me busy and feeling like death I didn’t get a chance to write anything up. Today is a bit of an interlude, and is going to be talking about my least favorite aspect of this game. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad or completely broken, I just have issues with this part of the game. Boats. I spent a majority of my weekend sailing around the Skellige islands going from point of interest to point of interest and ran across a couple of annoying mechanics that I want to talk about. Now, there was a patch that was supposed to address some of the issues people were having and I’ll talk about that later, but for the most part I find this part a bit annoying. First off, Geralt needs a bigger boat. Probably … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Tips

This has gone a bit better then expected so far. This will make 4 days worth of posts about this game. This one might be a bit of a stretch.I’m by far not the best player in this game, I mean I die a lot but I’ve never claimed I was good at any game. Just felt like I could share a few things I’ve learned along the way while playing the game. Money So, the thing that drove me crazy early on was that I never felt like I had enough money to buy the things I felt like I needed. This does get a bit easier later in the game, and there are always non-conventional methods to getting a lot of money (cow cheat). I don’t think there really is a quick and easy path out there though, it’s just something that you will need to be patient … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Where’d the time go?

So this makes part 3 in the series. This is more of the impromptu topic that I just pulled out of a hat, so we’ll see how it goes. Today’s topic of discussion: Where did the time go? I decided on this topic after thinking about how many times I’ve looked up at the clock while playing to discover that a considerable amount of time has gone by without me realizing it. Not that has ever been a large span of time, usually around an hour or a little more. That may be not be the case for everyone, I live alone and don’t go out much so I don’t have other people to pull me away from something as immersive as Witcher 3 is. I imagine if there was someone else in my apartment with me it would be different. The main source of distraction for me is my … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Content, Content, Content

Welcome to part 2 of my Witcher 3 Wild Hunt posts. Today’s topic? Content, if that wasn’t obvious. The thing about this game is there is a lot to do, and man that can’t be emphasized enough. As of writing this I am around 80 hours in to the game and I feel like I haven’t touched half of the content yet. I think that it is technically possible to beat the game in under 30 hours, if you’ve played through before and know the optimal path to get through it. Why you would want to rush through the game is a mystery to me. I think that any future playthroughs will always see me doing as much content as possible. So what types of content is there to do? Points of Interest While traveling around the different areas in the game you will come across message boards in towns. … Read more…

On Witcher 3 – Characters and Choices

So let start off by saying that I have not finished the game yet, not nearly. As of last night I think I had around 80 hours of time in the game, and considering there is supposed to by 200+ hours of content I would say that is not half way through yet. I’m also still on what can be called “Act 1” (based on how the strategy guide is laid out). Also, yes I bought the guide, I’m just not using it. I got it because of the goodies that came with the collectors edition version, and for when I play through a second time, because there will be a second time. Anyways. If you’re not familiar with the Witcher series of books and games then you might want to brush up. I can’t say I know everything about the series, most of what I know has come from … Read more…
