On “The Man From U.N.C.L.E”

So today was another movie day. Like I said yesterday, mostly just feel like I need to get out a bit more. Today’s movie was the one I wanted to see yesterday “The Man From U.N.C.L.E” starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander and is based off a 1960’s TV series. The show takes place some time in 1963 during the Cold War when there was a lot of tension between the U.S and Russia over nuclear weapons. Personally, I liked the movie. It took the right amount of time setting things up and moved quickly. I liked the visual presentation and the acting was pretty good. I think the movie suffers in one aspect, and that is that there is an ever growing audience that cannot relate to anything in this movie, other than that it is a spy movie. It has been long enough now since the … Read more…

On Strategy Guides

Today’s topic is sort of a follow up to the post yesterday about buying collectors editions of games. I posted this as a writing prompt to the blaugust forum yesterday, for the express purpose of doing this: How do you feel about using strategy guides for games? Do you buy them or look for user guides online? I’ll be honest that I do use guides from time to time. There are times where I just buy them to use on a second playthrough, or because it includes, or is bundled with, an art book. Now, I don’t really use the guides all that much, only if I really get stuck on something, or like I said already, a second playthrough. My main use for guides are for collectibles, which are probably one of my favorite things to do in games. The second part of that topic is whether or not … Read more…

On Collectors Editions

Today’s post brought to you buy a writing prompt, but this time one that I came up with just now. How do you feel about buying collectors editions? Why do you buy them, or why don’t you? Personally I have mixed feeling on collectors editions of games. I think they’re good to have around for people that like to buy them. I don’t think that them being offered hurts anybody, unless you are spending money on them that you should be using for other things, like paying bills and eating. But if you have the means to buy them then more power to you. I don’t tend to buy a lot of collectors editions myself because in a lot of instances I don’t feel like the things that come with them are enough of an incentive to pay $100+ (89€/65£). Does that ever stop me from buying them? Nope, not … Read more…

On Scheduling Game Time

As of today now there are 6 days left in August (not including today), getting close to the end here. Today I thought I’d talk a little bit of a mixture of gaming and personal stuff. So bear with me here. So if you keep up with me on twitter, or have seen other times I have mentioned this you’ll know that early in July I lost my best friend in the world to depression. It’s been a difficult period in my life because frankly I’ve never had to deal with losing anyone I cared about. To say it’s been difficult is a bit of an understatement but it’s hard to describe how hard it is to come to terms with something like this. The one thing that seems to help is by keeping myself distracted. Now I don’t mean to say I’m not pretending things didn’t happen, I just … Read more…

On Favorite Game Of 2015 (so far)

Today’s post courtesy of this prompt: What was your favorite game that was released in the last year, and why? This is actually a tough choice because there are two games that I just really enjoyed this year, at least up till now. Those two games are Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition. Both are fantastic games, and I easily put 100+ hours in to both of them. However, I think I’m going to go with Witcher 3 as my favorite game of 2015 (so far). You might ask why I would choose Witcher 3 over Dragon Age Inquisition and it would be hard to explain. I enjoyed both equally. Both had compelling stories and enough activities/quests to keep me busy for amount of time. I really don’t even want to choose because trying to justify one over the other is just really hard. In the end I think I’m … Read more…

On What Game Company Would I Like To Work For

So there is a thread in the Blaugust Nook that is essentially an AMA thread where you ask a question for the person above you , and you have to reply to the question the next person asks. The question I got was: If you could work for a company that creates video games as their largest form of income, which company would you choose and why? I thought about this a little bit, and while my initial thought was Bethesda I decided that I really don’t know much about them as a company and they’re also more of the parent company that hires development studios to do the work. The company that I landed on was Blizzard/Activision. I decided to go with them because they have a wide variety of things that I have enjoyed. I played WoW steadily for many years, and I enjoy playing Hearthstone now. The … Read more…

On Preferred Gaming Platform – A Blaugust Post

So this is Day 7 of the Bluagust challenge. It seems that for now my site is back up and running after a few days of being down for whatever reason. Today’s post is brought to you by another writing prompt from the Blaugust Nook. What is your preferred gaming platform? Are you a multi-platform gamer or do you stick to one platform all the time? What is it about that gaming platform that you like? I will say it’s a tough choice to make to say which platform I prefer, but I would have to go with Consoles. I think that the reason for this partially stems from the fact that most of my early gaming experiences were on consoles. Yeah we had an Atari, and I played a lot of those math games on my dad’s old Hewlett Packard. But my first real fun gaming memories come from … Read more…
