On Elder Scrolls Legends – Beta Impressions

So first off, today is the first day of the yearly thing my friend Bel tries to organize where people commit to posting as much as possible during the month of August. Previous years it involved posting daily for the entire month, which is seriously hard to do. This year it has shifted slightly and while you can still choose to post every day if you want it isn’t required. This year there were scheduling options, of which I have chosen weekday blogs. Meaning I’m going to try, emphasis on try, to post Monday through Friday for every week in August. I’m not entirely sure how a public list will be handled, but you can head over to his blog and check out some of the other participants. So for my first post, I’m going to talk a little bit about the Elder Scrolls Legends beta that I played over … Read more…

On The Importance of Character Creation

So this morning my friend Belghast made a post discussing his first impressions of the ArcheAge alpha, part of which was covering the character creation system. This made me think about what kind of things I look for when playing an MMO for the first time, and how important the customization was when creating a character. Most of the MMO’s that I’ve played in the last few years offer at least some amount of character customization. Whether that is the basic amount of information such as race, sex, hair color, or allowing details that most people don’t even think about such as nose length, depth and things like that. The question is how much detail should be required as the bare minimum and how much is to much? Personally I think a good example of what I would consider “bare minimum” would be World of Warcraft. The character creator there … Read more…

On Elder Scrolls Online – The Not So Good

So yesterday I discussed the finer point of Elder Scrolls Online, which I still maintain is a great game and is worth playing. Today though, I’m going to talk a little bit about the things I personally find annoying, or am not a huge fan of. Granted I don’t really think there is a lot to this topic, but I’m trying to post more, and I feel I should mention both aspects of the game. Gold Farmer / Spammers Ok, so this topic is absolutely not a game related issue. This is far from the first MMO where I’ve had to deal with gold farmers and spammers. This is more of a general MMO complaint. Personally I think the GM’s and other customer support people handle this very well from what I can tell. They make it easy to report a player and from what I understand actively pursue them. … Read more…

On Elder Scrolls Online – The Good

So one of the games I have been playing lately is “The Elder Scrolls Online”. I’ve heard mixed opinions about this game, good and bad, and thought that since I’m trying to do the blogging thing a bit more I’d put down my thoughts on the matter. I’ll start this off with the fact that I don’t know much about the series lore. The only Elder Scrolls title that I played before this one was Skyrim. Well, I tried to play Oblivion but it was years after the fact and I had a hard time adjusting to the graphics. So to rephrase that a bit, the only Elder Scrolls game I have finished was Skyrim. The focus of this post is going to be the things I like about the game, and I’ll have a follow up post about the things that I don’t particularly care for. Graphics So this … Read more…
