On Hitman – Sort of a Post Mortem

So, when Hitman was first announced as a somewhat episodic title I was a bit skeptical and wasn’t sure it was a good idea. Since the game has come out I feel like my opinion on this has slightly shifted. That doesn’t mean I’m a fan of episodic content, I just think that in the end that was probably the best choice they could make for this game. The reason I say this is because Hitman, at least the way it is now, can be quickly digested in a single sitting. If you follow the guided routes, what they call opportunities, you are more often then not led straight to the target and how to get rid of them. If not both then one or the other. If that is the only thing you do for each level, then yes you can finish all the current content within a couple … Read more…

On catching up.

So I guess it has been over a month since my last post. Honestly I haven’t really felt all that motivated to write much. Been pretty busy time at work which is usually where I do all the writing. So just to give a few updates I guess. I bought a new computer, and it took almost a month for it to actually come in. I wound up getting an Alienware Area-51 desktop, 4 TB hard drive, 16 GB ram and an NVidea Geforce 970 with 4GB Ram. It’s a beast, and I’ve barely had a chance to use it. Within the first couple of days I started having issues with the network card telling me it was missing registry entries or something. I haven’t had time to really dig in to it, so the only solution I’ve managed to get working at this point is turning the PC off, … Read more…

On Hitman: Paris*

*On what is currently available to play. Not all the content is out yet because is releasing episodically. I’ll start off by saying that I’ve only ever finished one Hitman game before the latest installment had it’s first round of content released. Prior to this game I’ve only completed Hitman: Absolution, which I liked. It was criticized for being different from the original Hitman trilogy because of how small the levels were and how it wasn’t as open ended as they were. Like I said, I never finished those so I was fine with what I got. The new Hitman game is a return to how the old games were, for the most part. The game, and what are essentially tutorial levels, starts off 20 years before the first game and covers how Agent 47 joins the agency he works for and how he gets the name “Agent 47”. The … Read more…

On Busy Gaming Month

So, this is not me complaining that there are to many games coming out in the next month or so. In fact I’m going to be happy to have so many things to choose from. I’m just glad I’m at a point in my life & career that I have a little bit of extra money to be able to get to enjoy my hobby in the way that I do. So short rundown on what’s coming up that I’ve got pre-ordered. I think there are PC versions for all of these but I’m mostly a console person at this point so all of these will be getting played on my PS4. Street Fighter 5 Street Fighter 5, which comes out next week, is a game I was really on the fence about. I’ve played several iterations of this series ever since Street Fighter 2 on the SNES back when … Read more…

On Scheduling Game Time

As of today now there are 6 days left in August (not including today), getting close to the end here. Today I thought I’d talk a little bit of a mixture of gaming and personal stuff. So bear with me here. So if you keep up with me on twitter, or have seen other times I have mentioned this you’ll know that early in July I lost my best friend in the world to depression. It’s been a difficult period in my life because frankly I’ve never had to deal with losing anyone I cared about. To say it’s been difficult is a bit of an understatement but it’s hard to describe how hard it is to come to terms with something like this. The one thing that seems to help is by keeping myself distracted. Now I don’t mean to say I’m not pretending things didn’t happen, I just … Read more…

On Hitman: Agent 47

So this past Friday (August 21) the new Hitman movie came out in theaters. If you’re not familiar with the video game series it is based on I might recommend looking in to the games first because, while the movie does explore some of the history of the character it might help to get some more background before going in to it. Though, if you just enjoy action movies then you may like this too. The thing is that I’ve only really played the most recent Hitman game that came out, Absolution. I know the backstory, but I really went to see it because it looked like it would have elements of the game that I enjoyed. Now I wouldn’t say that it totally lives up to that, but it throws nods to the gameplay style that I knew. The problem is that they pretty much show all of that … Read more…
